News—In the midst of an increasingly tight credit market, Quad Communities Development Corporation (QCDC), a local non-profit group, has carved out a pot of funds to stimulate commercial real estate investment in the Bronzeville community. This pioneering organization has negotiated a public-private partnership with three local banks, ShoreBank, Harris Bank, and Citibank, resulting in a pool of $12 million in flexible, low-interest loans available to businesses and property owners on Cottage Grove Avenue and intersecting streets within the commercial district.

News—Nearly 50 small business owners, community partners, and financial institutions participated in the Quad Communities Parade of Retail Tour on August 2, 2007. The purpose of the tour was to promote the Cottage Grove Corridor to potential business owners from around the Chicagoland area. Our community—When Erin Green lost her job as an office manager at a local non-profit she called Kimberly Dean, her former case manager, now on staff at the Abraham Lincoln Centre’s new Center for Working Families – that was on a Monday. By Wednesday, Ms. Dean was able to arrange for Ms. Green to interview at a doctor’s office the same week. The following week Ms. Green was hired and for the past month she has been working as a part-time administrative assistant for a psychologist at Michael Reese Hospital.

Our community—If you're on Cottage Grove Avenue, you don't have to look hard to see signs the often neglected retail corridor is making a comeback. The signs are literal from 51st Street to 39th Street, where banners welcome visitors and residents to "the Grove," and proclaim "Cottage Grove, a place to grow."

Our community—The 2nd Quarter Quad Communities Job Fair, at the King Community Center on Cottage Grove Avenue, was a joint effort by the Abraham Lincoln Centre, Center for Working Families, Quad Communities Development Corporation and Mid-South Business Service Team that drew a couple hundred job seekers and 19 potential employers .

Our community—The Quad Communities planning effort began on August 2, 2003, when more than 75 residents and community leaders convened to discuss the state of the community and how it might be improved. In total, more than 215 people participated in early stages of the process, not including a special visioning session that was held for teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17. On March 27, 2004, the Planning Task Force was assembled, consisting of 88 residents, institutional leaders, business owners, public safety officers and other representatives. The task force divided into five committees—Commercial Development, Community Enrichment, Education, Employment and Housing— charged with researching and developing strategies and programs to achieve a shared vision. A community-wide meeting was held at King College Preparatory High School on June 19, 2004, to update residents and collect input. More than 200 adults and 40 teenagers attended. The task force and its committees, working closely with professional planners from Camiros, Ltd., finalized the plan at a series of meetings during the summer and fall of 2004.
