Children at Reavis elementary school in Bronzeville are learning capoeira, an Afro-Brazillian martial art that is teaching lessons about music, language, history and the fun of learning. The class is part of a philanthrophic effort to showcase how meeting student needs can improve education and Reavis is one of just five schools in the city chosen to participate in the program.

Special Service Area #47 is charged with the responsibility of using this economic development tool to assist in cleaning, beautifying and revitalizing the Cottage Grove and 47th Street Retail Corridors. SSA #47 will pay for services, like CleanSlate, which keeps the corridors clean. Quad Communities Development Corporation is accepting Advisory Commissioner applications to fill the non-paid role of appropriating SSA funds.
